Elements of composition
Frame:
Framing is simply using other objects in your photograph to frame the main subject. This is probably one of the easier composition techniques in photography. Framing brings more depth to the picture and a better focus on what the main subject is.

Proximity:
Proximity simply means that objects near each other are seen as a unit. Its really simple and it’s something you see every day. On your web page or your business card, related information is put closely together and it forms a visual unit.
Time:
Timing is an important part in photography. The human still being an advantage over the machine, we can predict what event it would happen.

Representation:
In photography, representation is about the relationship between the photographer and the audience. When the photographer can change the story behind the image to influence into their own idea which they can then impact on to the audience. This means that the photographer themselves are in full control of the story behind their photo. This allows them to change the atmosphere of the whole image.

Focus:
A central point, as of attraction, attention, or activity.
Like in this picture, the background has been blurred and the rose has been put into focus. Therefore

Diagonals:
Diagonal lines generally work well to draw the eye of an image’s view through the photograph. They create points of interest as they intersect with other lines and mostly give images depth, by suggesting perspective.

Leading lines:
Leading lines are used to draw the viewer’s eye through a photograph. They are intentional or unintentional, natural lines created in the space of the photograph and are used to create a visual narrative in the composition. Leading lines are also used to draw your eye to a focal point in the shot that you would like to highlight. |
Curves:
Curves make an image easy to look by leading the viewers eye through the frame. It is almost as if the photographer takes the viewer by the hand, draws them into the landscape and then point the way. The viewers eyes are compelled to follow the line. Curves are graceful, rhythmic, dynamic and add energy to an image.

Figure to ground:
Figure to ground is when your subject and your background have a strong contrast between them. This will then create a dramatic photo.

Triangles:
Triangles are a great way of combining different compositional techniques, such as lines and paths which are used to create more interesting aspects of a photograph. The best thing about using triangles is their ability to make a photo feel stable, or unstable.
